Harold Williamson Obituary

Williamson
HAROLD WILLIAMSON
July 3, 2018
Harold Williamson died July 7, 2018, at Penrose Hospital at the age of 79 with Judy, his wife of 56 years, at his side. Hal was born in El Dorado, Kansas to Gus and Gladys Williamson. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Truman.
Hal is survived by Judy, sons Kyle and Kurt. Kyle and his wife Ana and twin grandsons Carter and Reese and Ana's children Mia and Gio reside in Lake Mary, Florida. Kurt lives in Denver.
Hal's family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico when Hal was 5. He graduated from Hobbs High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He attended the University of Western New Mexico on a football scholarship. After graduation he moved to Florence, Colorado, where he met Judy Fritz, a native of Florence. Judy's father was on the school board in Florence. Hal figured if he married her, he had a better chance of keeping his job. After Judy graduated from college they married in Florence, June 1962. Harold continued to teach and coach in Florence while Judy taught in Canon City.
They moved to Colorado Springs in 1964 continuing their teaching careers until 1996. Their oldest son Kyle was born in 1964, with brother Kurt following in 1969. Hal taught and coached at Air Academy High School and finished his career as a guidance counselor and coach at Coronado High School.
Hal had a lifelong passion for playing golf and was a member at Country Club at Woodmoor since 1972. After retirement, Hal and Judy traveled extensively, especially enjoying their trip with their grandsons to Switzerland, Judy's paternal grandmother's homeland.
Hal lived with multiple myeloma for his last 10 years. His illness continued to frustrate him because he could no longer play "good" golf. A physical substitution was swimming, ultimately logging 300 miles! He was an avid reader, quick to give you advice on the latest novel to read. If you didn't want to know about his latest read, you could ask him to tell you his latest joke. Hal died as a result of a cycling accident. The injuries proved fatal due to his long term multiple myeloma illness.
Judy would like to give special thanks to Dr. William Malabre, MD; Dr. Daniel Tell, DO; Dr. Tony DeCarolis, MD; and the staff of Rocky Mountain Cancer Center for their excellent care for the past 10 years.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the International Myeloma Foundation. Information is available on their websites.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Country Club at Woodmoor on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 2 pm to 5 pm.

I never had Mr. Williamson as a teacher but somehow I just knew him. He always had time to talk. He was kind and there was an inner strength about him. I had so much respect for him. I graduated in 1973. I was very surprised when my son's attended Coronado in the late 80's and Mr. Williamson was a counselor and he remembered me. I wish to send my sincere condolences to you, his family and tell you; even though I believe you know you were very blessed with a wonderful man. Rest in paradise Mr. Williamson. Thank you for all you gave.

Dear Judy, Kurt, Kyle, So many years ago we were those young teachers in the Air Academy district, starting our families, and enjoying great times together i.e. skiing, faculty picnics etc. Although we haven't kept in touch recently, we do enjoy remembering those times and were so sorry to read about Hal's passing in the newspaper. What a great couple for 56 years...energetic, adventuresome, resourceful, loving, With sincere sympathy from your "old" friends, Patti & Andy Anderson

I had the good fortune of teaching and coaching with Hal at Air Academy and Coronado High Schools. He was an excellent teacher, counselor and coach - but equally important, he was an excellent human being.
