Mary Ann O'Dowd, age 66, died at home in her husband's arms on December 2, 2017. She was a loving wife and life partner, mother, daughter and sister.
Mary Ann Toledo was born on July 9, 1951 in Peralta, New Mexico to the late Alberto and Nila (Otero) Toledo. She grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from high school there in 1969. Soon after she joined the United States Army where she served her country honorably for two years as a Dental Assistant. She married Michael O'Dowd on July 31, 1970 at JFK Chapel at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The young military family moved from Fort Bragg to Panama, then Fort Lewis in Washington State and back to Fort Bragg. Later they were assigned to Fort Devens, Massachusetts and finally retired at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs in 1995.
Mary Ann loved her family first and foremost, but she also liked storytelling, reading, baking, games of chance and the Christmas Season. She will be best remembered for her smile, her sense of humor and her laughter.
She is survived by her husband: SGM Michel P. O'Dowd, US Army Special Forces, (Ret.); two sons: Michael (Tracey) O'Dowd and Paul O'Dowd of Smithfield, North Carolina. In addition, she has three brothers: Fred Toledo, Manuel (Isabel) Toledo; Andrew (Sandra) Toledo all of Albuquerque and three sisters: Stephanie (Edward) Segura; Alberta Dubriel and Emmy Gallegos all of New Mexico. Her mother-in-law; Judy O'Dowd lives in Rancho Murieta, California.
She was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
