Nels was a very special person to our family and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He had a heart of gold and was always so caring and present when my parents (Bud & Phyllis Mayfield) were both ill. There is no doubt there is one heck of a jam session going on in heaven today.

To the Clang brothers and families, Roger and I were honored to have known your parents. We had great times at "the one horse ranch "hunting turkey and deer.
I loved sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and swapping stories.
Many a time Nels would fire up the soft serve ice cream machine and invite the neighbors over. Always fun.
Nels endured cold fingers while performing during Rail Fest activities at the park. He injoyed playing and he knew we injoyed listening.
Tenth and Chestnut was a great place to live.
God bless all of you. Roger and Linda A.

Nels played a important part in my husbands and my life with being a role model for God, family and life. He was generous, loving to many near and far, and he represented the best of what we all could be. He will be missed in this life but remembered for eternity.

Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I was a student of his in 1975-1977. I walked into his class two weeks late, not even knowing what refrigeration was and he told me that I could do anything, I wanted. I've been in the HVAC trade for 44 years. Thank, Nels.

There will be much written and said in the days to come about the life and legacy of Nels Clang, his lifelong love with Loretta and the richness of family life they cultivated together with a deep faith in God that was the center of their world, and the boundless source of cordiality they extended to friends and acquaintances they blessed throughout the years. None of anything shared will truly capture the deep warmth of the love Nels exhibited to every person in his life. It will only be felt and remembered.
Nels was simply an unassuming and remarkable man of intelligence, wisdom and depth. He was a gentleman in every way and as pleasant and positive a person as has ever lived. He touched lives and hearts with a craftsmanship every bit as masterful as his skills as a luthier and musician.
As a childhood friend of James Clang, I was blessed to spend time with Nels and Loretta as a second family growing up. We traveled together, played music together and cheered Husker football win or lose, on fall Saturdays in their living room and in Memorial Stadium. Birthdays and pizza parties and church gatherings were incomplete without Nels' wry wit and ever present laughter. His smile filled the room with as much joy as his fiddle and guitar.
In understated moments of conversation, Nels' natural gifts as a teacher and the wisdom of his life made him an compassionate listening ear in challenges, large and small. While his small town Nebraska work ethic was evident in everything he touched and accomplished, Nels would be the last to say any of this about himself because he was a humble man of Godly character who led his sons and their children in consistent example of the vibrant relationship with the Savior he loved and taught them to cherish in equal measure. His music, his humor and his gentle strength were a blessing to everyone privileged to know him and call him a friend. And I did.
He was a father to me.
I can only think that heaven now enjoys far better versions of Orange Blossom Special and Wabash Cannonball, and the very best handmade guitars to accompany the choir. Most of all, Loretta has her best friend at her side once again.
My fondest condolences to the Clang family and especially to my friend and brother James, in this time of remembrance of a man who lived life fully and well.
