Dolores Green Obituary

DOLORES EDITH GREEN
June 18, 1933 December 21, 2020

Dolores E. Green peacefully transitioned from this earthly life with her hand in the hand of her loving husband of sixty-four years on December 21, 2020 following a long period with Alzheimer's disease.
Dolores was born in Albany, New York, the daughter of Burton L. Carner and Edith Bishop.
She graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York, where she served on the student council, was editor of the "Columbian", the school yearbook, and received the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award and the Syracuse University Citizenship Award for outstanding qualities that defined her entire life. In 1955 she graduated from State University of New York College for Teachers with a BS degree in commerce.
Following graduation, Dolores worked for the Protestant Family and Children Service in Albany, a job that was ended a year later when she accepted a proposal from Wilbur Green. Dolores and Wil had grown up in the same church, and Wil was completing his first year in seminary. They were married in 1956 and moved onto the campus where Dolores worked as a receptionist in the administration building and secretary for one of the Old Testament professors.
In 1958, they moved to their first parish in Littleton, New Hampshire, where their two sons were born. They remained in New England for twenty-five years, followed by churches in Wayzata, Minnesota and Shaker Heights, Ohio, retiring to Colorado Springs in 1995.
While actively engaged in church and community life, Dolores' highest priority was devotion to her family. Before they went off to college, she was always there to send the boys off to school in the morning and greet them when they returned home in the afternoon.
She loved to cook, sew, knit, braid rugs and quilt, spending hours making things for her children, grandchildren and husband, as well as many of her own beautifully tailored clothes. She was a quintessential homemaker, extending a gracious hand of welcome to friends and neighbors, church staffs and groups, visiting missionaries and children from the inner city of Boston. All found a warm place in her home and in her heart.
Dolores had an innate ability to discern another's situation and could respond with a fun-loving twinkle in her eye or a listening ear and a compassionate hug. Dear to her heart were the relationships enjoyed as a thirty-six-year member of P.E.O., at the time of her passing Chapter BO in Colorado Springs.
Dolores is survived by her husband; their sons, Jeffrey (Jill) and Timothy (Gina); and beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Carmen and Makenna.
A service of remembrance and thanksgiving will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Dolores' memory may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 20 East Saint Vrain Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903 or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 25339, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80936.
