Ernest Leroy Richmond of Colorado Springs passed away on October 7, 2017. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 1-3 PM and a Funeral on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road in Colorado Springs.
Ernest was born March 26, 1925, northeast of Grant, Nebraska, on a farm, to the late Harvey and Cynthia Erlewine Richmond. He was educated in Perkins County, Nebraska. He worked as a farmer, then later opened an electrical business, also was a custodian for Madrid Schools. In June of 1946, Ernest married Opal Fisher. They had two daughters, Phyllis C. Roberts and Carol I. Morris Bruhm, and one son, Gherald L. Richmond. In 1952, they moved to Colorado Springs, where Ernest was employed by School District 11 as a custodian. He was employed there for 30 years. Opal preceded him in passing on September 9, 1981. Ernest remarried in 1982 to Ardath F. Calvert. He and Ardath retired together, and continued to enjoy life in Colorado, living in various areas in the state, Pueblo, Florissant, Colorado Springs and Aurora.
Ernest is survived by his two children, Phyllis Roberts of Colorado Springs, and Gherald Richmond of West Bend, Wisconsin. Ernest has two grandchildren, Stacey Roberts and Leslie Ann Willoughby, three great-grandchildren, Jake Roberts, Justice Willoughby and Chimera Willoughby, and one sister, Betty Stohler, of Colorado Springs. Ernest was preceded in passing by his sister Dorothy Richmond in 1929, as well as daughter Carol Bruhn and wives Opal and Ardath and step daughter Loa Calvert. From his marriage to Ardah, Ernest has two stepsons, Robert Calvert and Russell Calver, also a stepdaughter Susan Cardsen. There are numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
