EVELYN JACOBS

Evelyn was born the youngest of four children to two piano teachers in Kansas City. She was the first in her family to attend college, where she attained a degree in piano performance. In the mid 1950s, she worked as an entertainment director at a U.S. Army base in Germany, where she met and fell in love with Jim Jacobs. After Evelyn and Jim returned to the U.S. they soon eloped and had three children. The family lived in Hawaii from 1965 until Jim died of cancer in 1968. Evelyn moved to Chipita Park in 1969. She went back to college to get a degree in education and then worked as a kindergarten and music teacher at Ute Pass Elementary School for the next twenty years. A few years after she retired Evelyn moved to La Veta, a remote town in southern Colorado. Music and nature were two of her greatest loves. She made sure her children all learned to play instruments and relished her piano group. She adored all animals and reveled in the outdoors. Evelyn lost her son Charles in 2005. She is survived by her son James, daughter Margaret, and grandsons Cody and Riley Lynch. As per her wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service.

She was an amazing woman, full to bursting with a passion for music, learning, and life.
All this time and I still think of her often. She will without doubt live on in the hearts of those who's lives she touched.

One of the dearest women ever, and an incredible, loving and patient piano and kindergarten teacher. We are all better off for having known her.

As my piano teacher in the mid-1980s, Mrs. Jacobs humored my awkward junior high and high school phases in stride. In college, I house- and dog-sat for her several times, and I remember looking in awe at photo albums of her earlier life and days in Germany. Not just a kindergarten and piano teacher, Mrs. Jacobs was remarkably independent, progressive and worldly.

She was an amazing teacher and one of the reason I became a teacher. I was just telling my students a story about her the other day. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Evelyn was such a kind sweet lady. She taught both of my daughters, Bonnie & Andrea in Kindergarten. The Christmas programs she put together were so amazing. We were all blessed to be a part of of them, especially the children. RIP Evelyn, you will be sadly missed. You were one of a kind.

I loved Evelyn Jacobs. She was the Kindergarten teacher to my twins, and a good friend to me. I worked as her teacher's aide for 2 years. One day she announced to the Kindergarten class that the next day we would take a walk to look for signs of fall. My sister and I planted signs of "fall" along the path by writing "fall" on notecards and tying them to the trees. The next day we took our fall walk and by the end she was laughing so hard each time we found another sign of "fall". It was a great day. She was a wise teacher and friend. My granddaughter is named Evelyn, and I hope she live p to her name.
