James George Davis, known to his friends as Jim, died on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was 91
He was born August 28, 1927, and raised on the family farm just outside of Bird City, Kansas. He left home to serve in the Merchant Marines during World War II. After he returned he married Elizabeth Sue Leathers, with whom he had six children. They remained married until her passing in 2015.
His professional life included many accomplishments. He moved to Colorado to work as a miner on the Western Slope, but then moved to Colorado Springs. Here he first worked as a carpenter. He later founded El Paso Floor, Inc. which was a successful business and continues operations to this day. He because a board member and part owner of what was Citadel Bank, which was acquired by UMB Bank.
He had a deep Christian faith which he found after the tragic and unexpected death of his two eldest daughters, Gail and Lea, who passed as young children. He was a committed member of Gideons International and a longtime Rotarian, who loved to golf.
He is survived by his children. James M. Davis, Rebekah Kiser, Lynn Tompkins, and Jill Davis, as well as nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday November 15, 2018 at Hope Chapel 5740 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, Colorado. And a Graveside Service will be held at Bird City Cemetery, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., central time in Bird City, Kansas
