John Pack Shanklin, age 68, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1985, passed away on Friday July 2nd, 2010 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born Dec 2, 1941 in Marion, VA. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He earned an electrical engineering B.S. from Iowa State University and an M.S. from The Ohio State University. John worked in the computer and defense industries, and was well known for his diligent work ethic and kind soul. John is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Mary “Cookie” (Seigel) Shanklin, his children Kim Budsberg (Eric) of Titusville, FL, Teri Hochdorfer (Joe) of Oakdale, CT and his much loved grandchildren, Emma and Kaylee Budsberg, Jessica, Ryan and Karissa Hochdorfer. He is also survived by his brother James R. Shanklin (Cheryl) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his parents John and Mary (Roman) Shanklin and sister Mary Helen Hess. Service at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church on Wed July 7th. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
