DR. JOSEPH CORDARO

It is with great sadness, the family of Dr. Joseph (Joe) Cordaro announces his death on September 11, 2018.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jane Cordaro, children: Melina Rathbun, Vincent Cordaro, John Cordaro, Alice Moran, Joseph Cordaro, James Cordaro and grandchildren.
Dr. Cordaro, son of Italian immigrants, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Georgetown University Medical School with a specialty in Cardiology and Internal Medicine and met his beautiful wife in Washington, DC. After completing Medical School and residency, he served his country in the uniformed Public Health Service as the only Doctor for hundreds of miles to treat members of the Navajo and Hopi Nations in Arizona. After several years, Joe continued his Public Health Service duty back in NYC providing medical care to members of the United States Merchant Marines.
After leaving the service, he moved his family to Lewiston, NY where he opened a Cardiology practice on Center Street. Dr. Cordaro had a lifelong passion for photography and won many awards. He specialized in landscape photography with special interest in black and white photography of Niagara Falls. Joe and Jane retired to Arizona to the Southwest landscapes they grew to love during their time with the Public Health Service. Back in the Southwest, they traveled extensively, Joe indulged in his passion for photography of the Grand Canyon and desert landscapes. His last years were spent in the Southeast close to children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, September 24, 2018 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28277 with receiving of family and friends beginning at 10:30AM in the Daily Mass Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.

Dear Jane and Family I was saddened to hear of Dr Cordaro's passing. I'll miss my birthday and Christmas cards and long notes to keep me updated. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Doctor. Mrs.Cordaro and Melina and siblings. I'm very sorry for the loss of Dr.Cordaro. Melina and I went to Stella Niagara together and graduated from Madonna High School. We reconnected after many years recently. I'm very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you now.

Joe and Jane and their children were our next door neighbors when we moved to Lewiston in 1978. He was devoted to his family, his friends and his patients, and I only wish I had known him longer before he moved out west. My condolences to Jane and the family.
