Mary E. (O'Connor) Madsen, died peacefully at Life Care Center on September 19, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends who had the honor of holding her hands and embracing her as she ended her journey in this life and moved into heaven.
Mary was born in Denver, Colorado and lived there with her family until she moved with them to Colorado Springs in 1967. She worked as an Executive Secretary at the National Electrical Contractors Association until her retirement. She very much enjoyed meeting with the contractors and the apprentices, and she especially enjoyed the yearly Christmas party at the Broadmoor.
Mary enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, inviting them into her home and ensuring that all enjoyed their favorite refreshments, which might include wine along with nuts and candies. She looked forward to these times visiting with her friends and learning all the tricks of the game.
Mary also enjoyed going to Las Vegas with her family where she attended various shows and manned the "one-armed bandit" into the wee hours of the morning. As her Irish luck kicked into gear, Mary would return to her room with many containers loaded with dollar coins. Mary also enjoyed taking the family to Cripple Creek, again playing the dollar slots--usually the Blazing Sevens--knocking lightly on the glass to remind the slot machine to pay off. As usual for Mary, Irish to her bones, those slot machines would pay off, giving her more money with which to gamble or to take home.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, William D. Madsen, and her son, William Daniel (Dan) Madsen, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Karen; her sister, Norma Sloan; and her brother-in-law, Terry Sloan. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their loving families as well as dear friends and neighbors.
Mary's family earnestly thanks all the people at Life Care Center and Brookdale Skyline for the loving care they gave her.
A private inurnment will take place on October 17, 2018.
