Nancy Kate deLong Kent passed on September 1, 2018 following a courageous 20 year battle with dementia, probably a combination of the Alzheimer's and vascular types.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Helen St. John Perrott Rose; and father, Oscar Anderson deLong. She leaves behind her husband, David Ronald Kent; two sons, Daniel Ronald Kent and Jeffrey David Kent; and a daughter, Sharon deLong Kent. Also, her twin brothers, Oscar Anderson deLong, and Charles Frederick deLong as well as other family members and many friends.
Nancy was born in Orange, New Jersey September 18, 1937; a great day for humankind. She lived in Verona, and Montclair, New Jersey at an early age. She graduated in the top 10% of her class from Montclair High School in New Jersey in 1955, then Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University in 1959. On June 20, 1959, she married David, and headed west with him to California. In 1964 the young family, then of three, moved to Colorado Springs. The family expanded to five and Nancy, the families' soul, took on the major portion of household, and child rearing responsibilities. While doing all this she still managed to find time to sing with the Colorado Springs Chorale for 35 plus years and become a master gardener.
In 1979 Nancy started a new chapter in her life by taking a job as Secretary to the Dean of Students at Colorado College. From there she moved quickly into the position of Assistant Director of Financial Aid, a title she held until her retirement in 1994. After retirement she dove into watercolor painting, a sometimes hobby she had for much of her adult life. She sold many paintings but was mostly in it for the pleasure and beauty of the experience. She also gave away many paintings which now hang in the homes of friends and family throughout the world.
She will be missed. A loving woman to her core, even while undergoing great suffering.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held on 10:00 a.m. September 8, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church located at 730 N Tejon St.
