Bessie May Washburn
1926 - 2018
Born Bessie May Daniels in Spirit Lake, Iowa, February 25, 1926 to Bud and Iva Daniels. Bessie passed away on 17 January 2018. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gerald from Carthage, New York. They were married at Joplin, Mo on 3 October, 1953 after a 2 month courtship.
Bessie was a dedicated army wife, homemaker, and community servant who like her husband was "Army Strong". She worked diligently with VFW post 3917 and served as the Women's Auxiliary President. She volunteered countless hours to the Widefield Community Center in their reading and child development programs. Bessie was an avid "Fisherwomen", a skill she learned from her father who was a fishing guide in Spirit Like. She also loved to bowl, a passion she continued until 90 with many 200 games under her belt. Her favorite pastime was being Grandma Bess to four girls she raised as infants until they started school. She will be greatly missed by Erica, Marci, Kelcie and Hannah and all those who enjoyed her company.
