This is the test of the Eulogy for Lori as prepared and read by my brother (Bruce) and I:

A Eulogy for Lori Knowles

Bruce: Ian and I would like to share our thoughts and memories of Lori.

Ian: Lori will always be remembered by her wonderful sense of humour, big smile, hazel eyes and her head of naturally curly hair. As a small child we called her Lollipop!

Bruce: Lori loved nature and was courageous, intelligent, out-going, creative, artistic and quick-to-laugh.

Ian: Lori had terrific grades in school, and particularly enjoyed visual arts and drama.

•Bruce: In our elementary school Christmas Play, she won the part of The Blessed Virgin Mary.

o Ian: Unfortunately, Bruce was Joseph in that same play.

• Ian: In her high-school production of Teahouse of the August Moon, Lori won the part of a Geisha girl.

o Bruce: She always teased me that I didn’t get that part.

Bruce: Lori, Ian and I grew up in a single-parent household. With my mother hard at work all day, it was evident that Lori had natural maternal instincts. She helped with many of the household chores, including the cooking.

Ian: Lori had a terrible cold one day, but that day she nevertheless made apple crisp for dessert for the whole family. My mother kept the spices on the kitchen counter in jars. When she was finished baking, the apple crisp didn’t smell right; having a cold, Lori didn’t notice. Instead of brown sugar, she put onion soup mix in it instead.

• Bruce: so as not to hurt her feelings, Ian made me eat the whole thing.

Bruce: Lori made a career out of creative talents. She was co-partner in a furniture restoration business in Vancouver with her friend Pat. In addition to turning old furniture into works of art, she managed the finances of the business.

Ian: Lori passed away too early in life. She was a 40 year-old mother of two daughters: Tara who is 20 and Kelsey, 16.

Bruce: Lori was a terrific mother, sister and daughter. Despite tough times she kept in touch with us and recognized all of our birthdays and other special occasions. She always called me her “little brother” even though I was older than her. Even though she was far away I always had the sense that she was looking after me.

Ian: Her daughter Tara graduated at the top of her class and received her schools largest post-secondary scholarship. Her youngest, Kelsey, this year received the top academic award at her high school. They will carry on Lori’s legacy. All of us who knew her will remember her, forever.

Bruce and Ian: WE LOVE YOU, LORI!

Our family would like to thank all who have sent condolences and wonderful memories of Lori. We deeply appreciate it.

Lori had several nicknames. Her Nana and Pappy and the rest of the family called her Lollypop. As an adult some of ther friends would call her Bear. This symbolized some of her best qualities - her sweetness and her strength and courage. She had a great sense of humor and a ready and remarkable laugh. Who can forget her long, beautiful, brown curly hair and her quick smile which could charm even the most hardened hearts.

With great maternal instincts Lori raised two beautiful, intelligent daughters, Tara and Kelsey, who continue to excel in their studies. Our family remains by their side during this tragic journey and send all our love and support.

With a breaking heart I will keep Lori with me forever, but I am comforted by the knowledge that she is at peace and is watching over her family and friends from heaven.

Love you Lollypop! From Mom xoxox

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Lori. I still remember the first time I met her. It was her first day of school at Blackburn Hamlit Catholic School we hit it off and we were best friends for a few years. She had such a great sense of humor and she saved me in art class. We had fun times together. I am really happy that she touched my life and I will cherish it forever. I pray that time makes Lori's loss less painful for your family at this difficult time.

I remember a little girl who was quite a gifted artist, who was fully aware of past lives she had lived and often drew pictures of them. I recall vividly, one particular black crayon drawing on bright yellow paper of an Eskimo boat loaded with people. I clearly saw her face in the boat staring out at us. It was as if she were trying to jog the memory of it for us. I think she was four at the time. Lori was an extraordinary and sensitive child.

I remember a ready, joyous smile, a good sense of humour and an impossibly thick head of the most beautiful curly hair. I also remember her sadness and bewilderment when her father passed away. I'm not sure that ever left her.

And somewhere out there, will be a small child again, who draws pictures of a life she once lived here and the people who loved her ......and miss her greatly.

Diane, Ian and Bruce

My very sincerest, warmest thoughts are with you now, tomorrow and always.

"In one sense there is no death. The life of a soul on earth lasts beyond her departure. You will always feel that life touching yours, that voice speaking to you, that spirit looking out of other eyes, talking to you in the familiar things she touched, worked with, loved as familiar friends. She lives on in your life and in the lives of others that knew her"

Lori is now surrounded in a beautiful field of flowers with a loving God taking care of her.

Love always
