Dear Neighbors,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Gumbo Sr.'s passing. For almost four decades, we shared a hedge. Rather than a division between our properties, I always saw it as a connection between neighbors. As the hedge grew fuller, so did our families.
I often think back to those weekends when I´d hear Sr. and Jr. playing basketball or kicking the football around, wishing I could join in and learn from the GOAT-Gumbo Bean. It was a quiet comfort knowing such genuine people lived just on the other side of those Match Me If You Cans.
He will truly be missed. I´m sure he´s still cheering you on as you continue through this game of life-only now, from the other side.
My sincerest condolences,
Heidi Baptiste and Family

Condolences to Carol, Nicole, Ralph Jr and to all the family. I apologize for not personally coming to say farewell to my Tall Friend. I gave him that name as his height and long reach helped me out several times. The first time was when North Village ran the concession stand on the eastern side of the National Stadium. Back then local clubs were able to apply to run the stand. Tall Friend was part of a team that included Paul Trott, Cal Dill and others. These guys were helpful but did not have his reach. He always carried a big smile with his greeting. God bless you and keep you. I'm sure you have lots of fun and fond memories to sustain you.
Zelma, past secretary of NVCC.

To Carol and Family,
There are few people that words are simply not adequate to fully describe just how special their presence has been.
'Gumbo' certainly fits into that category.
I had the pleasure of playing against him and can give testimony to just how good a player Ralph was. He was a complete sportsman every day of the week. What made Ralph even more unique was his manner outside of the game. Always a gentleman with time and kind words for all.
Bermuda has lost one of the all-time best. I cannot come close to stating just how great a person he was.
Please accept my sincere condolences at what must be a very difficult time for all the knew Ralph.
RIP Gumbo.

To Carol, children and the remainder of the Bean family. Please accept my condolences for the loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather and precious loved one. I became acquainted with Ralph as a youngster but our friendship grew when we worked for the same firm PW´s not just as work mates but as sports rivals him at NVCC and I at YMSC boy those were the days. Above all Ralph was a gentleman and became a great family man. His demeanor was always the same pleasant with a smile on his face and never a harsh word. More over he was a devoted and godly man who was devoted to his family and his church. He loved all and believe me he was well loved and respected. Be comforted by the many great memories you had and in knowing he is at his father´s side looking over you all. He is gone too soon but will never be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend.

This was especially sad for me to see Ralphs notice here...not realizing that he had indeed passed...When l told my son about this,he too was broken...He idolized Ralph growing up as a football player and an example of a decent Christian man..I would have loved for Ralph to have been a TROJAN but those RED DEVILS kept him close...To Carol...Ralph Jr and family,l extend sincere condolences to each of you...Ralph was someone that l greatly admired and respected as a great footballer but more so as the dedicated Christian man that he was...There is gonna be a GREAT GETTING UP MORNING WHEN THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST....Hold on to that Promise from the WORD OF GOD....May he rest in peace....

Dear Amanda, Pat, and family of Bro Bean, my deepest condolences. I did not know Mr. Bean personally. My mother's (Joycelyn Lambe) friendship with both Amanda and Pat allowed me to know his sisters, and Mr. Bean was kind and polite, like them, whenever we crossed paths. His popularity on the football field, did not puff him up which was a pleasant surprise to me showing great character. Respect. May God comfort and strengthen each of you as you mourn the loss of your Loved one. One day as God wills, we all will happily meet in the Earth made new, The New Jerusalem.
