Carolyn Johnson Obituary
Carolyn Johnson Obituary
Mrs. Carolyn Joan Johnson (née Waters), age 84, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, in Brooksville, Florida. Born on January 20, 1941, in Tampa, Florida, Carolyn lived a life rooted in love for her family, a dedication to her work, and a deep compassion for animals and nature.
Carolyn spent many years working at Eckerd Drugs as the manager of the photo lab. She took great pride in her role, bringing her clients' memories to life through their photographs. Her attention to detail and warm demeanor made her a trusted presence behind the counter and a mentor to many of her fellow employees.
Family was always at the heart of Carolyn's world. She is survived by her daughters Jacquelyn Franke (Jon), Deborah Richardson (Gene), and Charlene Hibbs (Ken). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Steven Johnson, Keith Johnson, Michael Hibbs, Brandi Richardson, Stevie Kurtz (Roberto), Ashley Moss (Justin), Rebecca Franke, and Gerald Franke. Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gordon Johnson, as well as her parents Joseph and Pearl Waters.
Beyond her professional life and devotion to family, Carolyn found joy in nurturing beauty and caring for those without a voice. A proud member of both the Garden Club and the Tampa Bay Orchid Club, she earned several ribbons for her floral arrangements at various shows. Her green thumb was matched only by her generous spirit-she volunteered with Wildlife Rescue in Tampa during the 1980s and opened her home over the years to several stray dogs who found comfort under her care.
Though she identified as Southern Baptist and did not attend church regularly, Carolyn found spiritual connection through music. She especially enjoyed watching Gaither Brothers gospel performances at home with Gordon-a quiet tradition that brought them peace and joy.
Carolyn's warmth extended beyond immediate family; she cherished time spent with cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who enriched her life with shared stories and laughter. Her kindness toward animals and gentle presence left an impression on all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn's memory to Sturgill Hospice House or the Humane Society of Sumter County-two causes close to her heart.
May Carolyn's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
