Martha Dickerson Obituary

Martha Reed Dickerson of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025 at the age of 78. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Brown (Douglas), Indianapolis, IN.; brother John Dickerson, Westfield, IN.; two nephews: Jeffrey Dickerson, Santa Monica, CA., and Andrew Dickerson (Leslie), Westfield, IN.; grand-nephew Quinton Dickerson, Westfield, IN.; and cousin Nancy Nelson, Washington, D.C. She is predeceased by her longtime friend David Adcock, The Villages, FL. Martha was born October 23, 1946, in Washington D.C. to parents Reed and Jane Dickerson. In 1958, her family moved to Bloomington, IN., where she attended University School and graduated in 1965. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and then attended Moser Secretarial School in Chicago, where she honed her business skills. In 1969, still in Chicago, she was hired by Libby, McNeill & Libby, where she worked for 3 years before moving to Scottsdale, AZ. in 1972. Of all her places of employment, she was the happiest working in catering and hospitality at the prestigious JW Marriott Camelback Resort Hotel and later at the Mountain Shadow Resort. Throughout her life, Martha attracted life-long friends. She was known for her sense of humor and was a joy to know and to spend time with. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties and creating unique table settings. As an avid movie goer, she was especially imaginative when she hosted "Over the Top" Oscar Night parties. She had a flair for interior design and liked to decorate (and redecorate!) her home. She loved music, loved to dance (great sense of rhythm!), and enjoyed playing the piano. She also loved art and was long-time member of the Phoenix Art Museum. Martha as a devoted family member, despite the long distances involved, and a devoted friend. She will be greatly missed. Final arrangements were in the care of Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale, AZ. No services were planned.
