Fred Sweeney Obituary

Fred Edward Sweeney

passed away in Tacoma, WA on March 20, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born in San Antonio, Texas later growing up in Austin, Texas. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and from Southwest Texas University in San Marcos with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a member of Phi Kappa Tau, fraternity. He obtained his Brokers Real Estate License and worked in the Real Estate industry. Fred was a member and very much enjoyed both, the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church throughout the years.

In his early years he very much enjoyed playing a lot of Rugby for San Antonio's first Rugby team, touring Europe with Bullet and later hunting, fishing, playing tennis, and being a leader in The Young Republicans Organization. In recent years, as always, a very good Bridge player, he enjoyed playing weekly Bridge with his friends, attending Bible Studies, going to football and baseball games and taking daily walks up the street to Wright Park in Tacoma with his walking companion Sheila, enjoying the beautiful flowers and trees and making new friends there. Fred very much loved and enjoyed his precious children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Edward Sweeney and his son

Samuel Gee Sweeney.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia Swann (Chesley), Megan Dixon (Ryan), John Sweeney (Nevada) and Courtney Sweeney. Grandchildren: Liam Sweeney, Carter Sweeney,

Sienna Sweeney, Clara Sweeney, and Dylan Sweeney.

Fred was a very kind, loving and sweet person and will be missed greatly.

A celebration in honor of his life, will be held at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E. Basse Rd., in San Antonio, TX on Friday, May 16th at 3:00pm.
