Daniel DeBlanc Obituary

Daniel "Dan" Joseph DeBlanc, a longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on September 13, 1944, in New Orleans, LA, Dan led a life marked by dedication, service, and an infectious enthusiasm for adventure. His formative years in New Orleans instilled in him a love for culture, food, and community, which he carried throughout his life. After earning his bachelor's from Southeastern University in LA, Dan answered the call to serve his country with honor and distinction. He joined the Marine Corps Officer and served from 1967 to 1971 as a helicopter aviator, achieving the rank of Captain, receiving rewards for his bravery in combat including the Silver Star. Following the Marine Corps, Dan was hired by Air America in Vietnam and Bell Helicopter International in Iran. After returning to the United States, Dan and his wife, Sharon, embarked on a new adventure as the operators of two Tastee Donut franchises. In 1991, one of the donut franchises in Slidell became Southside Cafe. For over 34 years, he was the heart and soul of this beloved establishment. Dan's zest for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was an accomplished athlete, having been a high school and college rodeo bull rider and a motocross rider. His passion for sports continued with snow skiing, deep-sea fishing, tennis, and racquetball. Dan was a devoted and loving husband to Sharon DeBlanc. Together, they shared countless adventures and built a life filled with treasured memories. He also leaves behind, his older brother, Joe DeBlanc; as well as the Tastee Donut and Southside Cafe employees past and present that were so much a family of their own. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen DeBlanc, and his younger brother, Bill DeBlanc. Dan's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the importance of friends and family. Those who knew him will remember his funny anecdotes, his wise counsel, and his generous spirit that never failed to uplift and inspire. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. A celebration of Dan's life will be announced at a later date. Grace & I have known Dan & Sharon for about 45 years. We had many great times playing racquetball, tennis and going fishing. Dan was larger than life and he had a heart of gold. He was extremely generous and he radiated humor and warmth to everyone around him. People were drawn to him and southside employees became his extended family. He was truly one of a kind and he certainly will be missed!

A Privilege and Honor to have served the same War and Time as Dan. We often reminisced the Marines handling low level and the USAF B-52s the high! I am very proud to have known Dan and Sharon over many years in Slidell and witnessed their Philanthropy, and Enjoyment in the regular Patrons so congenially welcome at The Southside Cafe!
Service Well Done Dan. See you on the Other Side!

I met Dan and Sharon at Club Chamale when I sold the club their wine and spirits. What a crowd that was!!
I then serviced them and Chris at Sputhside Cafe for years.
Wonderful people who would help others.
Rest in peace Marine!
