DEER CREEK – Bobby "Bob" Nelson, 74, of Deer Creek, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born on February 14, 1950, in Princeton, Illinois, to Arden and Anna Mae (Anderson) Nelson. Bob married Nancy Rote on October 6, 1973, in Princeton, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Nelson of Deer Creek; sons, Eric (Leslie) Nelson of Germantown Hills and Todd (Shayla) Nelson of Claremont, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kaylee and Kolson Nelson and Arden "AJ" and Abilene "Abbi" Nelson; sister, Judy Fiste of Malden, Illinois; sister-in-law, Diane (Jeff) Schieber of Carlock, Illinois; and nephews, Keith Fiste, Korey (Jen) Fiste, Michael (Tina) Bell and Chad Bell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Loren and Doris Rote and brother-in-law, Wayne Fiste.
Bob graduated from Malden High School in 1968 and from Spoon River College in 1970, with a degree in diesel technology. Bob was a United States Army reserves veteran having served from 1969 to 1975.
He worked as a product support engineer for Caterpillar Inc. for 39 years. After retirement, as his hobby and enjoyment he raised Black Angus Cattle, restored antique John Deere tractors and an occasional Minneapolis Moline, as well as tractor rides through out Bureau County.
He enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren. Bob loved all his family with a big heart and cherished being called PePaw most of all.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, Illinois and American Legion Post 318 in Morton.
A graveside burial was Monday, August 26, at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton. A funeral service was held Monday, August 26, 2024, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton.
Memorials may be made to Great Peoria Honor Flight or St. Jude’s Runners' Association.
