Tigard, Oregon - Barbara K. (Erwin) Kennedy age 93 of Tigard, OR, formerly of Trenton and Pinckneyville IL, passed away peacefully February 5, 2025, at Summerlake Home Care after longtime health issues.

She graduated from PCHS in 1949, attended nursing school at Missouri Baptist Hospital and graduated as an RN in 1956. She also served in the US Air Force from 1963 to 1965 as 1st Lieutenant Nurse Corps. During her time in the service, she married Michael Stone of Portland OR who also served in the USAF and they lived in Washington, Alaska and Arizona before divorcing amicably and Barb returned to IL in 1970.

In 1983 she married Loren Dale Kennedy, also formerly of Pinckneyville IL. They lived in Trenton IL until his death March 2015. Barbara relocated to be near family in the Portland OR area in late 2015.

Barb had been a member of the First Methodist Church in Pinckneyville IL and worked at area hospitals including Pinckneyville Community hospital and St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro IL. She was a lover of music and could play piano beautifully. She was also a member of a tap-dancing group called Silver Belles and a Beau who regularly performed at local functions in the Belleville IL area. Barb danced well into her 70s before "retiring."

She is survived by her daughter Kathleen E. Stone (partner Drew) of Tampa Bay FL and James E. Stone (Rose) of Hillsboro OR; a sister Jody Weiskopf and niece Kate Weiskopf of Encino CA; grandsons Dominick and Evan Stone of Hillsboro OR and granddaughter Makenna Stone of Hillsboro OR; and extended family in both Portland and Pinckneyville areas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale; her parents; and brother in law Kim Weiskopf.

There will be a celebration of life held at a later date. She will be cremated and interred at Mueller Hill cemetery, Pinckneyville IL.

I'm fortunate that I was able to have a nice visit with her two months ago. Barbara was a talented lady, a loving mother and a good and decent person.
