Nancy Johnson Obituary

Nancy P. Johnson

March 20, 1936 - May 31, 2025

Scottsdale, Arizona - Nancy Johnson passed away on May 31, 2025. She was born on March 20, 1936, in the small rural community of Poag, IL, near what is now SIU-Edwardsville. Nancy moved to E. St. Louis when she was 12 and quickly adapted to life in the city. She made friends easily, many of whom remained friends for life. She attended Lansdowne Junior High School and E. St. Louis Senior High School, graduating in 1954. Nancy spent many years working for the State of Illinois, first for Judge Joseph Goldenhersh with the Illinois Supreme Court and eventually for Judge Goldenhersh's son, Judge Richard Goldenhersh, with the Illinois Appellate court.

On June 1, 1957, she married Gerald F. (Jerry) Johnson and enjoyed 61 years together until his death in 2018. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling to visit them after her retirement.

Nancy was always very hard-working and intelligent. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and working with her classmates to organize their high school class reunions. Always elegant and organized, Nancy earned the nickname "Perfect Nancy". Whether it was organizing their finances, keeping a spotless home or installing a new plumbing fixture, Nancy kept her life with Jerry running smoothly. She could make a perfect pot of coffee or whip up a delicious dessert for any occasion. She was the glue that kept her extended family together and her influence will be deeply missed.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, Karl and Marie Schnyder; brother David Schnyder; and sister Kay Schnyder Harris. Nancy is survived by her two children, Gerald (Carol) and Janice (Bert); four grandchildren, Cassie (Gerard) Richards, Kamryn, Caitlin and Kyle (Lindsay) Castro; three great grandchildren, Roman, Miller and Sienna; brother and sister-in-law William and Patricia Schnyder; sister-in-law Lucia Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
