Louis Lacariere Obituary

Louis A. Lacariere

July 5, 1947 - January 14, 2025

Sumas, Washington - Louis A. Lacariere, born July 5, 1947, in East Los Angeles, California, to Helen Packer and Arturo Lacariere, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at his home in Sumas, Washington.

Growing up as one of eight siblings in Santa Cruz, California, Lou spent his youth selling newspapers along the wharf to fund his love of candy bars. After graduating from Soquel High School, he answered the call to serve his country. In 1968, he trained at Fort Lewis, California, before being deployed to South Vietnam. During his service, Lou was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

Upon returning home, Lou pursued higher education at Fresno State University, where he earned a master's degree. His career was dedicated to supporting fellow veterans. He worked as a team leader at the Veterans Center in Marina, California, counseling veterans with PTSD. Later, his work in vocational rehabilitation brought him to Seattle, where he was deeply involved in outreach programs for veterans. After retiring, Lou settled in Sumas to enjoy the rest of his life.

Lou had a kind heart and an infectious zest for life. He cherished good coffee and food and had a lifelong love of tennis especially following the Grand Slam tournaments. A devoted jazz enthusiast, Lou's eyes would light up at the sound of great music; he attended the Monterey Jazz Festival for years. Known for his sense of humor and warm smile, he brought laughter and joy to those around him.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him as a beloved friend, husband, and brother. Lou's memory will remain forever in our hearts.
