Edward Featherston Obituary

Dr. William Edward Featherston, 73, of Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at Texoma Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on August 3, 1951, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to R. Henry and Virginia Featherston, Bill was a devoted husband, father, brother, physician, and friend. He graduated from King High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1969 and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Baylor University in Waco. In 1978, he received his doctorate from Eastern Virginia Medical School. Bill forever remained grateful to the EVMS family for the world-class medical education that the school provided. After graduating from EVMS, Bill went on to residency at Baylor College of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center, Houston, where Bill was selected as Chief Resident during his senior year. Bill joined the faculty upon graduation in 1981 and later served as the Program Director of the Family Practice Residency Program.
Over the course of his distinguished medical career, Dr. Featherston's most passionate calling was always to teach. Dr. Featherston served patients and trained resident physicians at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston; UT Southwestern St. Paul's in Dallas; and Texoma Medical Center in Denison. He retired in 2023 as a faculty member of the Texoma Family Practice Residency Program, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and excellence in medicine.
Bill met the love of his life, Cecelia, as the literal girl-next-door at his rental home in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon moving in, he immediately noticed her cats in her window, which the landlord told him were forbidden. So the next day he drove out to Richmond to retrieve his own cat, Lion, from his parents' custody and bring her home to live and meet the lady with the cats next door. Bill and Ceil married three years later, on April 27, 1979, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Together they raised a daughter, Robin, many more pets than can be named here, and built a life full of laughter, love, and companionship.
Bill was a voracious reader who never lost his curiosity or passion for learning. Some of Bill's favorite reads included science fiction and non-fiction on physics, medicine, and the way our universe works. Bill was also a passionate lover of music who amassed a record collection that would rival that of many collectors. Bill had a deep love for animals, especially his cherished pets over the years.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ceil; his daughter Robin; his brother Bruce and wife Carol; and his faithful dog, Opie Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his treasured dogs Mac, Dugan, Hamlet, and Pag.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the intensive care unit team and staff at Texoma Medical Center for their exceptional care and kindness during Bill's final days on this Earth, as well as the team at the Texoma Dialysis Center who cared for Bill since 2022.
At this time, no service is scheduled. A family memorial will be held later this year in Benton, Arkansas.
