George Lent Obituary

George Washington Lent III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, in Benton, at the age of 86. Born on June 24, 1938, in Plainfield, New Jersey, George led a life characterized by service, compassion, and dedication to both family and community.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Marie (Abel) Lent, and their three children: Judy Holsworth, married to Troy Holsworth; April Reisma, married to Keith Reisma; and Andrew Lent, married to Susan Howell. George's legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, who all cherished his love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
George enjoyed a fulfilling career as a semi-truck driver, working with Matlack of Northampton, Pennsylvania, and Umthun Trucking of Eagle Grove, Iowa, for over 30 years. During his trucking days, he was a member of the Teamsters. Following his trucking days, he owned and operated a small engine shop in Eagle Grove, called Big George's Little Engynes (spelled that way so one would say it that way), where he continued to serve his community with dedication.
While a semi driver, he became involved in the Transport for Christ ministry. Through this role, he ministered to fellow truck drivers, helping many find hope and faith. In pursuit of a life-long dream, George became a chaplain in October of 2023 with the Transport for Christ trucking ministry.
In his retirement, George took on numerous jobs, including a memorable role as a driver for special needs children, who fondly remember his kindness and commitment. His impact extended beyond his profession; he was a passionate advocate for legislative change in Arkansas, successfully influencing public school busing laws to improve the lives of countless children. He was a member of the Arkansas Education Association during his work with public education and continued to be so as a retired member.
George Washington Lent III leaves behind a rich legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege to know him. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 18, at 10:00, at the First Assembly of God Church in Benton, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the food pantry at the First Assembly of God at https://bentonfirst.com/give, or to Transport for Christ at https://tfcglobal.org/donate/.
