Glen F. Succaw Jr., age 75, of Morley, walks with the Lord. His life's journey came to an end on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at his son's home in Cadillac. Glen was born on November 18, 1949, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Glen F. and Shirley J. (Johnson) Succaw. He was raised in Grand Rapids and graduated from Rogers High School in 1967.
Glen joined the U.S. Army as a typist and, in 1968, was stationed in South Vietnam as part of MACV. He spent two years in Vietnam, with his second year serving as part of a three-man advisory team that worked with local militia.
Following his service in Vietnam, Glen rejoined the Army and served as both an infantryman and a combat engineer. In 1980, he was honorably discharged from active duty as a decorated Staff Sergeant from Fort Bragg, having earned the Combat Infantry Badge and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He continued to serve his country as a member of Company F, 425th Infantry of the Michigan National Guard, where he became a Jump Master. He retired from the Guard in 1991 as a Sergeant First Class. During this time, Glen also began a career as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Grand Rapids, retiring in 2005.
In 1996, Glen moved to Morley to start a new life with his son. There he continued to participate in equine sports like cutting and rodeos. While living in Morley, Glen developed a passion for shooting sports and would spend hours in the local gun store, talking shop with the owner and other customers.
Glen was a gruff, frugal, and strong-willed man, but he was also a kind and generous man with a soft heart for animals and children.
Glen is survived by: his son, Glen III, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Succaw of Cadillac; his daughter, Churyl, and son-in-law, Andrew Liston of San Antonio, Texas, along with their three children, Connor, Fiona, and Marian; Glen III's sisters, Virginia and Mackenzie; and many other beloved family members.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents: Glen Sr., and Shirley Succaw; Siblings, John "Charles" Succaw, Norma Nelmark, and infant brother, Robert Lee Succaw.
A celebration of life will be held at the Lighthouse Free Methodist Church in Barryton, MI on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 3pm. A time of food and fellowship to follow.
