Chris Creighton Obituary
Chris was born on Nov. 17, 1952, in Big Spring, Texas to Merrill and Josephine Creighton. He is survived by his wife Janet (Jan) of Georgetown, his sister Sharron Stelter of Lubbock, and his brother Cliff Creighton of Amarillo, as well as nieces and nephews.
In 1977, Chris graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A., in Philosophy with honors. With a desire to travel, Chris set out on a year long adventure traveling throughout Europe and Asia including a two month stop over in Tiberias, Israel living on a Kibbutz where he helped with the farming tasks. Upon his return to the USA, he enrolled in Baylor University graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Magna Cum Laude.
Chris began his career with General Dynamics in Dallas as a Software Developer. Wanting to return to Austin, he secured a position in 1984 with the newly formed Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corp (MCC) as the Computer and Network Security Manager. As a side note, MCC was a major coup for Austin and helped catapult Austin from a sleepy college town into the tech center it is today. Chris remained with MCC until 1997 at which point he started his own consulting business supporting MCC, MCC spin off companies, Southwestern University as well as other local Georgetown businesses.
Planning for his retirement, still many years away, Chris purchased some mountain property northwest of Trinidad, Colorado where, over the course of 2-3 years he single handedly built a small two story cabin where he and Jan would spend vacation time during the warmer months. Somewhere along the way Chris became enamoured with the Icelandic sheepdog as well as the Icelandic horse. So began his next sojourn into the breeding and selling of Icelandic horses on his property outside of Georgetown. He was passionate about his horses and educating folks on this special breed.
To say that Chris was multifaceted is an understatement. He lived life on his terms and to the fullest. He will be greatly missed but we take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place.
Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Big Spring at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 with burial at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
