"Randy" Garms was born on Aug. 22, 1948, in Newport News, Virginia, to Melvin Sr. and Dorothy Garms.
Randy married his wife, Doris, on June 7, 1972. They dedicated their lives to serving their country, as he was a proud member of the United States Air Force. His years of service were marked by his skillful work as an aircraft mechanic and his role in aerial refueling, as well as other roles such as guard duty and printing press. During his career, they were based in Texas, California, Alaska, and North Dakota. Along the way, the Lord put people in his path who shared the gospel with Randy. In December of 1983, while stationed in Texas at NASA Johnson Space Center, Randy surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and began a lifetime of service to Him. In 1989, Randy retired from the USAF in Ft Worth, Texas, and they moved to Wyoming to be near family. He later enrolled in Arlington Baptist College and completed pastoral courses. His passion for missions was fueled during this time.
When Randy and Doris moved to Bolivar in 2001, they became faithful members of Berean Baptist Church, where they served in various ministries throughout the years, supporting missions and the missionaries sent out by the church. Randy could often be found greeting visitors, teasing and making people smile, showing his love and concern, and sharing his kind heart and sweet personality.
Randy was a beloved family man, survived by his cherished wife, Doris Garms, children Mark (Kelli) Garms, and Joletta (Colton) Johnson; grandchildren Micah and Lauren Garms and Dawn Meyers, Brandon Garms, Jennifer Plumley, and Logan Johnson. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Dianne (Joe) Teel, Judy Hamer, and Sharon Matthews, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many extended family, friends, and church family. Randy's warm spirit, playful personality, and gentle nature touched the lives of all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at Berean Baptist Church in Bolivar, on Friday, Aug. 15, at 9 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow with full military honors at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel in Bolivar.
