Sara Seaborg Obituary
Sara Seaborg, 56
Sara Darcy Seaborg, age 56, succumbed after a long struggle with her health on May 12, surrounded by her family. A fierce advocate for justice, a devoted wife and mother, and a luminous presence in every room she entered, Sara leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, love, and grace.
Born in Würzburg, Germany, to an American military father and Philadelphia Quaker mother, Sara's upbringing instilled both discipline and deep empathy. She brought those values into a life spent championing the voiceless and underserved. After graduating with a double major in English and Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990 and earning her law degree cum laude from Gonzaga University in 1996, she earned her license in Washington, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Michigan, forging a career that spanned decades. Practicing in all four states, Sara believed deeply in the humanity of her clients-regardless of public perception-and often said that "everyone deserved to be seen as more than their worst day."
She gained international recognition as the defense attorney for the McGuckin family in Sandpoint, Idaho, yet she worked just as tirelessly for clients whose names never made the news. Her work was marked by integrity, meticulous preparation, and a fierce moral compass.
Outside the courtroom, Sara lived richly, spiritually, and intentionally. She founded a small but devoted book club focused on literary classics, knitted and crocheted with inventive creativity, spent many weekends skiing on Schweitzer Mountain and Indianhead and sailing on lakes Pend d'Oreille and Michigan, and played piano with the same fervid determination she brought to her work. In her youth, she competed regionally in piano competitions-a gift she never lost.
Sara's greatest pride was her son, Finn Darcy Seaborg, whose future she anticipated with hope and boundless love. Her steadfast partner, Thor Seaborg, was her high school best friend and sweetheart and the love of her life. The family of three shared decades of adventure, most recently traveling to Greece just this past spring.
Sara was a proud member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, Chapter CX, where she mentored and supported the next generation of women pursuing academic excellence.
She is survived by her husband, Thor Seaborg; her son, Finn Darcy Seaborg; her brothers Bob Darcy (Mike Miller), Sam Darcy (Amanda Dassler) and Uri Gressel; mother-in-law Sheila Seaborg; brother-in-law Eric "Zeb" Seaborg (Renee); sister-in-law Sheila Ann Seaborg (Scott Bohn); aunts Veronica "Francie" Morton and Nora Darcy; uncle Tom Darcy; and her beloved Wettlaufer cousins Carrie, Lori, and Drew.
Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, a donation to the National Legal Aid & Defender Association or the P.E.O. Foundation, to continue the work Sara so passionately supported-equal access to justice and opportunity.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be held at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette on Monday, May 19th from 3 until 6 p.m.
