El Paso, Texas - David A. Hockenberry, May 1, 1948 â€" June 16, 2022 â€" David A. Hockenberry, 74 of El Paso, Texas was born in Bellefonte, PA. He was raised by his grandmother, Gwenn Hockenberry, of Bald Eagle. He was a 1966 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School, where he played varsity football. Shortly after graduation, he married Barbara Young (McKinley) from Pittsburgh, PA. Together they had a son, Brenton L. Hockenberry who survives with his wife, Diane in State College. He is also survived by a daughter Chandra Palmerino and her fiancé, Peter Czeck of Lancaster, and a son Christopher Timothy Hernandez and his wife, Hannah and a grandson, Christopher Jr. of Tucson, Arizona. David also had two-step grandsons, Jon and Joshua Baker of State College and two great step-grandsons.
David was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football fan. He loved corvettes, Harley Davidsons, Texas BBQ, and his beloved cat, Gata. He had an amazing group of friends that he surrounded himself with in El Paso, where he loved the heat and dryer weather more than the Pennsylvania cold winters. He was currently working for Mercedes Benz of El Paso, where he drove the courtesy shuttle. Dave was a people person and loved to meet and talk to new acquaintances.
In recent months, after contracting Covid last year, Dave was considered a long-hauler and struggled with his breathing and congestive heart failure. He was admitted to an El Paso hospital a few weeks ago, where they suggested sending him home on hospice. Dave made his wishes known to his friends and family that he wanted his ashes sprinkled at San Carlos beach in Mexico where he loved to go to vacation and relax. It was one of his favorite places. Next week, a close friend of Dave's from El Paso will carry out that wish.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, but memorial donations can be made in Dave's name to "Centre County Paws" https://www.centrecountypaws.org/.
