Clinton, North Carolina - Franklin Lindsay of 2560 Five Bridge Road went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Franklin was a man of great and deep faith and loved his family dearly. He was a strong family man, businessman and farmer. Franklin was born on June 20, 1932, in the Suttontown Community to E.N. and Ida Sutton Lindsay. He was a devoted husband of 74 years to Velva Gray Boyette Lindsay. Together they made a winning team that served the church and community faithfully.
Franklin and Velva married in 1951 and moved to Clinton to establish a home, career, and start a family. After several years working at various jobs, he joined his brothers, Jesse and Elmon, and dear friend Moses King in the grocery business operating a chain of Piggly Wiggly supermarkets from 1968 to 1986. In 1967, Franklin bought land on Five Bridge Road in Clinton and started his farming operation. In 1971, he built two hog finishing houses and he would be the first contract grower for Carroll's Foods. After departing the grocery business in 1986, Franklin continued to build hog and turkey farms and expand his cattle operation that was his pride and joy. He retired at the age of eighty-seven.
Franklin loved his family and his church. He was a faithful and longtime member of Grove Park Baptist Church since 1956. He served on the deacon board including many terms as chairman as well as a member of the adult choir for sixty-four years. He served and was director and or chairman of many committees including pastor search, building and grounds and finance. In addition, he served as church treasurer for several years and was a long-time member of the Adult I (Ronnie Warren) Sunday School class.
In the community Franklin was a member of the Rotary Club, Sampson County Cattleman's Association, Duplin County Calf Alliance, and NC Cattleman's Association. Also, he was a director and board member of Sampson County Friends of Agriculture and NC Feeder Calf Association.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, E.N. and Ida Sutton Lindsay; stepmother, Mary Belle Lindsay, his brothers, Elmon, Jesse, and Keith Lindsay; his sisters, Grace Barwick, Edna Jones and Geneva Adams. He is survived by his brother, Glenn Lindsay and sisters, Doris Wade and Judy Lewis. Also, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Franklin is also survived by his children, Angela Faith Lindsay and her special friend Bobby Stancil, Rhonda Lindsay Strickland and her husband Sherrill and Timothy Franklin Lindsay and his special friend Beverly Wells Page.
Franklin also had six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Allan Douglas Nanney III(Tripp) and children Violet and Logan; Hillary Caldwell Fordi and her husband Bob and daughter, Ada. Brandon Sherrill Strickland and his wife Megan and children Burroughs and Wallace; Clint Lindsay Strickland and his wife Allison and children Carter, Murray Miles and Watson; Alice Freeman Lindsay and Brighton Ashley Lindsay.
Thank you to the church family and friends for all the prayers during this time. We would like to especially thank his caretakers and the staff at Liberty Hospice that attended to daddy. They always made sure he got the best care and attention possible.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 at Grove Park Baptist Church with Reverend Jonathon Shattuck, Reverend Michael Shook and Dr. Dennis Bazemore officiating. The burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service. On Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27, the family will receive family and friends at the home of Tim Lindsay, 403 Fox Lake Dr, Clinton from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask and appreciate donations be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 609 Northeast Blvd, Clinton NC 28328.
