Deborah Kamlot-Wright Obituary

Deborah Jean Kamlot-Wright, a 21-year resident of Citrus County, died early Friday morning, Oct. 24, 2025, at HCA Florida Largo Hospital. She was 61.

Deb, as she was affectionately known, was born July 26, 1964 in New York, New York. She attended The Highland School in Jamaica Hills, Queens, then St. John's University where she received a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Deb worked for various Manhattan businesses in the advertising and creative fields.

Her life would take a significant turn in August 2004, when she moved to Florida with her two young sons. Her mother and a close family friend were already in Citrus Hills when Deb arrived.

She was hired as Director of Human Resources for the Citrus County Chronicle, a job she held and expanded until her resignation in December 2021. From there, Deb was human resources manager for PedIM Health Care in Crystal River. In June 2022, she became Vice President of Human Resources at HCA Florida Citrus Hospital, where she remained until health problems forced her to retire in spring 2024.

Deb had extraordinary empathy for co-workers. Deb's affection and intuition for all employees and their families was well known. Everyone loved Deb.

She loved the Citrus County community. Deb was involved with the Citrus County Education Foundation and enjoyed reading to children. She coordinated the Chronicle's United Way efforts for years and sat on the United Way board. Deb coordinated the Chronicle's 125th birthday at the Historic Citrus County Courthouse. She participated in numerous activities; Deb was everywhere.

Her community involvement was also quite subtle. Deb helped people quietly and without rancor, and never to draw attention to either herself or the person she helped. Deb was a best friend to hundreds.

In 2009, Deb began dating Mike Wright, then the Chronicle senior reporter. They were married Dec. 18, 2015, in the Chronicle lobby with all their work friends in attendance. Deb was most happy that her sons, Matthew and David, her mother Julia and Aunt Dorothy were there to witness it.

More than anything, Deb loved her boys. She was so proud of their achievements and the young men they have become. Matthew is an Management Development Associate for VyStar Credit Union in Jacksonville. David, who lives in Beverly Hills, is an assistant bakery manager for Publix Supermarkets.

Nothing pleased Deb more than being in their company.

Above all, Deb loved the Lord. She and her sons were baptized at Seven Rivers Church, where they were members. Deb and Mike often shared Scripture readings at night. Her family is comforted knowing she now rests with Jesus.

Deb is survived by her husband of nearly 10 years, Michael Joseph Wright, Inverness; her sons, Matthew Kamlot and David Kamlot; her best friend of 50 years, Andrea Packer; and her little dog Max.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Seven Rivers Church with the Rev. Ray Cortese officiating. The family kindly suggests donations in Deb's memory to the Citrus County Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2004, Inverness FL 34451.

David and Matt my heart breaks for you two. Deb and I became very close friends over the last 15 years. I enjoyed every moment I spent with her going back and forth from dialysis. She was so excited for her new kidney. I will miss her forever. No one could replace the loving friend she has been to me. Love you Deb.

My brother and I send our deepest condolences to Matt and David and all of Deborah´s family and friends.
I´m heartbroken over the loss of my best friend. Deb was much more than a friend, she was my sister, my family. Deb and I met on our first day of college at SJU. We were both students in the Department of Fine Arts. We developed a lifelong friendship. I will always cherish the fond memories of all of the good times we had together. She gave me support when my sister passed away. I´m thankful for her kindness. She was a wonderful person.
I´m glad that we spoke to each other on the phone recently and we each said "I love you". I never imagined that it would be the last time that we would speak to each other.
I´m grateful that I met Deb. Her friendship was such a blessing in my life. I will miss you, my dearest Deb.

Mathew and David, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a kind and caring person. Over the years, I spent countless hours standing in her office doorway talking about the most random things. No matter the topic, she always found a way to mention how proud she was of her boys and would ask me about my own children.

18 years ago, I invited your mom and another coworker to host a weekly entertainment webcast on the Chronicle´s website. When the movie Ratatouille came out, we discovered she just couldn´t pronounce it to save her life. We must have retaken that episode a dozen times and laughed about it for weeks afterward. It´s one of those memories that still makes me smile whenever I think of her.

Deb was an incredibly compassionate person who adored her sons and treated everyone around her like family. She will be deeply missed.

I am in total shock to learn of this untimely passing of a friend and classmate of more than 50 years ago. Deborah was always a sweet, caring and empathetic soul. I know she will be missed by us all but more importantly her family and best friend Andrea to whom they were both sisters, I m so glad they had each other. God bless the family and all that knew her, as we were all equally blessed by having known her. Deb your Highland family will never forget you.

I have no words to express the sadness of losing my best friend of 50 years...my "blood sister". My heart breaks for her sons and for everyone who was ever lucky enough to call Deborah family or friend. I'm grateful that she was my "BFF since '75". I will forever miss our talks, our plans, and our laughter (often laughing even through our tears). Only the Good Die Young, and there will never be anyone as Good as Deborah
