Kenneth Ayer Obituary

Kenneth Eugene Ayer Sr., a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at the age of 79.
Kenneth was a cherished resident of Hinesville, Georgia, but his roots trace back to his birthplace in Mobile, Alabama, where he entered this world on July 6th, 1946.
Kenneth had a distinguished career in the United States Army, serving his country honorably for 27 long and fruitful years.
Upon retiring from the military, Kenneth found joy in life's simple pleasures. He had a knack for bringing nature's beauty to life through his love of gardening and was known for his expertly curated yard filled with trees, bushes and flowers.
An avid fisherman, Kenneth found solace by the water, rod in hand, enjoying the peace it brought him. He also harbored a passion for collecting coins and stamps, a testament to his appreciation for history and detail.
His family was his pride and joy. Kenneth was a steadfast provider and a loving husband to his wife, Darlene Kirkland Ayer. Together, they built a family grounded in care and support.
He leaves behind his children, Kenneth E. Ayer Jr. (Tanja), Brian Ayer and Kathern Sparks, who will forever cherish his memory. His wisdom and kindness will live on in his grandchildren, Nikolas Sparks, Lloyd LaFountain, Omer Bowen and Alyson Ayer.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Edwin L. Ayer Sr.; mother, Mildred Salter Ayer; and his beloved grandson, Christopher Sparks.
Their memories lived on in his stories and the love he continued to show.
Kenneth will be remembered for his unwavering love, strength and gentle spirit. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Georgia Hospice Care for being an outstanding source of care and compassion for Kenneth.
A visitation will be held in Kenneth's honor at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia, on Thursday, July 24th, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the same location. Kenneth will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Abbey West, where family and friends may pay their final respects.
Arrangements are being handled by Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Garden City Chapel, 2794 U.S. Highway 80 West, Garden City, GA 31408; (912) 964-2862.
