TOWNSEND -- Mary Arthur Rozier, age 100, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Nahunta, Georgia. Born on January 29, 1925, in Savannah, Georgia, she lived a century marked by faith, family and unwavering kindness to those she met.
Known affectionately as "Ms. Mary" to many in her hometown of Townsend and beyond, Mary Rozier was a pioneering entrepreneur and beloved matriarch. For 38 years, she owned and operated Rozier's Handy Corner in Townsend, a cornerstone of the community where neighbors gathered not only for goods but also for conversation and connection. Her store was more than a business. It was an extension of her generous spirit and steadfast work ethic.
While managing her business with grace and determination, Mary also raised six children, a testament to her strength and devotion as a mother.
She remained deeply committed to her family throughout her life. Her children were the heart of her world.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Roland Rozier, Robert Rozier and Daniel Rozier.
She leaves behind two daughters, Barbara Ann Frankenthauler and Deonne R. Cave; and son, James Rozier. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who carry forward the values she instilled.
Mary's faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted member of Townsend Baptist Church for many years, she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and opened her home to visiting preachers and their families for warm Sunday meals. Her hospitality was rooted in love for the Lord and a desire to serve others with kindness.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved outings with her mother, Pauline, and her sisters, Yvonne and Virginia. Later on, she cherished traveling to the mountains with her daughters and browsing antique stores for hidden treasures.
A lover of nature and all of God's creation, Mary often reminded those around her to "Take time to smell the roses", a phrase that perfectly captured her appreciation for life's beauty.
Mary Arthur Rozier leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, resilience, generosity and love. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
