Ardis Arline Polson
September 13, 1935 - July 30, 2025
Ardis Arline Polson, 89, of Moreland, Georgia, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, Passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on July Thirtieth, Two thousand and Twenty-five. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Chery Polson, mother, Martha Messersmith, brother, Ernie Messersmith, nephew Hal Messersmith, and dear friend and Sister Teslin Mitchell.
Ardis was born in Farnam Nebraska to Albert Hennis Messersmith and Ethel Sinclair. Her brother Melvin (Donna) Messersmith and sister Cleo (Roland) Barthuly were raised by her father, who then married Martha Seckinger bringing Mark and Ernie Messersmith to complete their family of seven.
Ardis graduated from Chadrin State College and began teaching art and special education. Her teaching brought her to Alliance, Nebraska where she worked with Helen Polson and best friend, Belle Merrill, who set Hugh and Ardis up on a blind date. Six months later Hugh (Bob) and Ardis were married and celebrated their 68th anniversary on June second, 2025. They had two daughters, and they eventually moved to Columbus Nebraska. Ardis became a substitute teacher working with special needs children and filled her days with Campfire Girls, Bible Studies and raising her family. She was very active in church, donating her time and artistic talents to people in her community whenever she could. Her favorite pastime was watching her "Boys" the Nebraska Cornhusker football team play ball. Ardis was very active as a PEO sister. Ardis gave selflessly to anyone in need. No child around her ever went without. If she met you, you were family.
She is survived by husband, Hugh Robert Polson, daughter Geralyn Kay Polson and Cindy Adamson, daughter Nikki McLean, Cliff Mitchell, Veron, Randy and Richard Mitchell. Daughter, Julie Showalter and Jonathan, special friend and daughter Rita Samuelson and family. Her brothers Melvin and Donna Messersmith, Mark Messersmith, Sister Cleo and Roland Barthuly. Five grandchildren, Michael and Cathy Brocki, Shawntel Campbell, Victoria and family, Morgan and Sophie Showalter and many beloved nieces and Nephews, extended families and friends.
The viewing will be held at McKoon funeral Home on 38 Jackson St in Newnan, Georgia at 10:00 on Thursday, August 7th, 2025. The funeral will follow at 11:00 with Rev. Don Daly officiating. Ardis will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, GA following the service. Condolences can be expressed online at
