Dennis M. Ring Sr.
Dennis M. Ring Sr., age 89, of Stratford, passed away on January 12, 2025. He was a new year's baby, being one of the first babies in Brooklyn to ring in the year 1936. Dennis was born to Margaret and Warren Ring Sr. and was the loving younger brother to Warren Ring Jr. It was his brother that gave him his nickname "Stretch" (after growing to 6' 4') that would endure long past their childhood and become the name his grandchildren and multitude of nieces and nephews would call him. Dennis was a proud graduate of Brooklyn Prep. He went on to earn a degree in accounting from Pace University and earned his CPA. It was during a youth event at Holy Innocence parish, that he worked up the courage to ask a young lady if he could walk her home and that young lady, Virginia Patricia (Pat) Trum, became his wife of 60 years until her passing in 2020. While accounting provided a stable livelihood, it was his strong ties to family and church that truly grounded him. His professional journey included several relocations, from Brooklyn, NY, to Sycamore, IL, Danbury, CT, Grand Cayman Island and Stratford, CT. In each of these places, he found a new parish to call home, where he built lasting relationships. Answering a call to service he was a catechist, eucharistic minister, parish council member and fund raiser, He served on the Board of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Bridgeport in the early '80s, further underscoring his commitment to helping others. Dennis loved being a part of a large extended family forging deep and meaningful relationships. Born into a family of four, marrying into a family of nine, he is now remembered by 3 generations and more than 100 nieces and nephews as a good man and whom all lovingly called him Stretch. Dennis is survived by his children, Mary Pat DeCarlo, and her husband Bill, of New Haven, Dennis Ring Jr. and his wife Christine of Bethel and Karen Meisel and her husband Aaron of Stratford. Stretch was blessed with four grandchildren Courtney DeCarlo Levine and her husband Josh of Dedham, MA, Lindsay DeCarlo, Manhattan, Shannon Meisel and Sean Meisel of Stratford and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Zacharey Levine. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Peace, at 10:30 a.m., 651 Stratford Road, Stratford. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be appreciated.
