Randall Eichelberger Obituary

Randall Lee "Randy" Eichelberger

March 5, 1954 - January 29, 2025

Randall Lee "Randy" Eichelberger, 70, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, January 29, 2025, while a patient at Unity Point Allen Hospital. He was born on March 5, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Arleen Lafferty Eichelberger. Randy graduated from Lowden Community Schools and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Hein, on March 26, 1977, and the couple was blessed with two sons. Randy was a quality engineer for the John Deere foundry where he retired in 2009.

Randy was a giving man who would help anyone and without recognition. After retirement, he enjoyed being an escort volunteer at Allen Hospital. Randy could talk to anyone and was a problem solver, although he sometimes studied a problem too much. He played organized bowling for over 40 years and even bowled several perfect games. Randy especially loved volunteering at his church, Grace Lutheran Church, including singing in the choir and helping in any way he could. He loved to sing and was a member of the Old Gold Singers while at the University of Iowa.

Randy is survived by his wife, Carol, of Waterloo; sons, Scott (Camille) and their children, Ian and Evelyn, of Richlands, NC and Todd (Kayla) and their daughter, Madison of Hudson; sisters, Cheryl Eichelberger of Spirit Lake and Rae Leff of Tipton; brother, Brian of Clarence, IA; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 1024 W. 8th Street, Waterloo with visitation Monday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or Unity Point Health Allen Foundation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lockefuneralservices.com.

I knew Randy through volunteering at Allen. We both volunteered on Tuesday and often had lunch together with the Tuesday folk. Saw him and Carol sitting across from us at UNI games. Sorry to see his obituary. Carol so sorry for your loss.
