May Belle Ashley White
HERTFORD - May Belle Ashley White, 82, 757 Ocean Highway North, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. White was born in Suffolk, VA on February 13, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Raleigh Edward and Donnie Mae Monds Ashley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Edward White; sisters, Carrie Hope Twine and Nellie Harrell; and a brother, Roy Ashley.
A homemaker, for many years she was employed as a cashier with Big Star/Be-Lo Food Stores in Hertford and later with the Dollar Store in Elizabeth City. She grew up in the fellowship of Center Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her two sons, Horace R. "Buddy" White and Kenneth R. "Skin" White (wife, Jennifer), both of Hertford; a sister, Faye Twine of Tyner; two brothers, R.E. Ashley and Gerald Ashley, both of Edenton; three grandchildren, Dr. Paul A. White (wife, Christine) of Greenville, SC, Kenzie R. White of Hertford, and Kristen Bassett of Raleigh; a great-granddaughter, Ellie Bassett, also of Raleigh; special companion, Burfoot White of Hobbsville; a special brother-in-law, Carlton B. White of Haines City, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Tom Hallberg. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the church service, and all other times at the residence.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of both Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation and Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for the love and care provided to Mrs. White during her time of need.
