WINCHESTER, IN -- Kent Brooks Peacock, 87, died on May 26, 2025. He was born March 19, 1938, in Winchester, Ind., and was a lifelong farmer and Quaker.
He was extremely passionate about Native American culture and an avid collector of Indian artifacts that he often found while walking and working in his farm fields.
Kent was a member of the Jericho Friends Meeting in Winchester, where he established an academic scholarship in honor of his late parents.
He was an exceptional jokester, game player, and supporter of the community youth, and was a fixture at many homes and events in the Jericho community. He was also a regular at Mote Farm Service in Union City for morning coffee and at Friend Fellowship Community in Richmond, visiting his mother daily before her death.
Kent graduated from Earlham College in 1960, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and played football and volleyball.
Kent was a conscientious objector to the military draft and, after finishing college, volunteered for two years of alternative service with the American Friends Service Committee in Mexico, where he helped develop community projects for a village in Morelos.
He later returned to Mexico to work with two prominent researchers analyzing how social and cultural factors shape individual personalities in a Prentice Hall study titled "Social Character in a Mexican Village."
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Janis (Brooks) Peacock and Virgil Peacock, and one brother, Mark Peacock.
He is survived by two brothers, Von Peacock, wife Ruth, and Jean Peacock, wife Betsy, four nieces and nephews, Kim Peacock, wife Veronique, Jody Peacock, wife Orla Hart, Daren Peacock, wife Hannah, and Emily Peacock, and three great nieces and nephews, Nico Peacock, Nessa Peacock, and Conor Peacock.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on August 17 at Jericho Friends Church in Winchester, IN.
