Roy was such a pleasure to be around! He brightened up the room with his joyful presence and was quick to make friends, creating communities of musicians as he went along.
I met him at the DUH meetups where I was attempting to learn how to play the ukulele I had purchased in Hawaii.
Roy´s the one who gave me basic music lessons and taught me how to play the ukulele, even though I didn´t have much practice time and really never was good at playing.
Roy was so creative and skilled at wood carving! I cherish his Yoda plaque carving which is prominently placed at my front door, guarding the house.
He also created a beautiful wooden flute for me, complete with a carved bear and my name engraved upon it.
I remember helping Roy downsize when he moved from his house to the apartment and then helping him organize his apartment kitchen so it would be more efficient for him to use his cookware.
I thoroughly enjoyed and miss our afternoon chats regarding various interesting topics which was never complete until Roy played his ukulele while singing a song or two. I can still hear Roy singing and strumming as I write this...his voice and smile are embedded in my heart.
I surely do miss him , but hope he's still strumming wherever he is!
