William Pintauro Obituary

Dr. William M. Pintauro
Dr. William Michael Pintauro passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in San Clemente, California, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply. He was 80 years old.Born in New York City and raised in Pelham Manor, New York, William was the eldest of eight siblings-a role that shaped his lifelong sense of responsibility, warmth, and leadership. After graduating from Fairfield University, he pursued medical studies in Madrid, Spain, where he was one of a small group of American expatriates studying medicine. It was there he met the love of his life, Krysia, a fellow expatriate from England. The two were married in Madrid before returning to the U.S. to begin their life together and his medical residency in New Rochelle, New York.
A gifted and compassionate physician, William became a respected gastroenterologist and a cornerstone of the Darien, Connecticut, community, where he treated countless patients and made lasting friendships. He was very proud of serving 40 years in the Stamford Hospital System and becoming a founding member of an outpatient Endoscopy Center. His medical contributions extended beyond the clinic-his research helped identify "Thomas' sign," a rare carcinoma involving the ampulla of Vater, a discovery that lives on in medical literature. William's devotion to community and legacy shone not only through his career, but also in the way he lived-with a deep love for the outdoors, reflected in his passion for fishing, golf, sports photography, and fast cars. Most meaningful of all was his longtime membership at the Darien Boat Club, where he cherished early mornings fishing for striped bass and bluefish on Long Island Sound.
He raised three loving children-Sarah, Chris, and Steffi-with boundless enthusiasm, from embodying the spirited Blue Wave Knight mascot to capturing their triumphs as the football team's unofficial yet beloved amateur photographer. He reveled in the joy of his nine grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his love and prominent display of his old-school sense of humor.
Upon retiring, William and Krysia moved west to California, settling near their daughters and embracing a life filled with golf and ocean air. At Bella Collina Golf Club, he forged new friendships, and at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, he found a spiritual home. He quickly formed a bond with Father Mike, another New Yorker, with whom he shared laughter, faith, and familiarity.
Though he now rests, William's legacy stretches from coast to coast-from the waters of Long Island Sound to the greens of San Clemente. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a compassionate doctor, and a man whose presence left every room a bit warmer.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church on June 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the: Inn at the Mission, San Juan Capistrano, Autograph Collection by MARRIOTT, 26907 Old Mission Road, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, (949) 503-5700.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in William's name to the American Cancer Society.
