COLUMBUS — James Richard "Blackie" Black, 77, of Columbus passed away peacefully Monday morning, March 30, 2026, at the OhioHealth Hospice House in Columbus. He was born June 18, 1948, in Columbus to the late James Vernon Black and Phyllis (Spradling) Black and graduated from Mifflin High School in 1966.
On May 15, 1999, he married Lisa Hedges and together they celebrated and shared 27 years of marriage. Blackie worked in car sales for over 50 years with Black Brothers Used Cars and later Buckeye Nissan. He enjoyed going on vacations, watching NASCAR, golfing and coaching baseball for boys and girls in Kilbourne for many years.
An avid OSU fan and a people person, he held massive tailgate parties for the past 10 years at every home game, never meeting a stranger. Also, an avid fan of Jimmy Buffett, his Parrot head parties at his home were epic. Fun loving and ornery, he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lisa; sons, Jimmy (Lori) Black of Powell, Rick (Diana) Black of Delaware, Mike (Cathrine) Black of Canton, and Sean (Katie) Leonard of Delaware; twin daughters, Sally (Jason) Boyce and Sarah Violes of Marysville, and Megan Leonard of Hilliard; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Mary Kay) Black of Upper Arlington, Steve (Will) Black of Venice, Florida, and Bill Black of Heath, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins including special cousin Mary Galentine, and his Buckeye Nissan family also survive.
In addition to his parents, Blackie was also preceded in death by his grandson Daniel David and his great grandson Leo Black.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William St., Delaware, where service's celebrating Blackie's life will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Vic Jungkurth officiating.
