On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Jodeci Je'Shaun Antwon Taylor, also known as “Mahzii J” of Hopewell, Virginia, departed his life unexpectedly. He was born on January 17, 1996, to the parents of Julius Walker (Charlene) and DeCarla Evans (Darrell). Jodeci was a devoted father to his son Keion “KJ” Jordan, and he touched the lives of many with his smile, his lyrics and his love for music. He graduated from Hopewell High School in June of 2015.
Jodeci attended Commonwealth Challenge, a military structured youth academy. He later joined Job Corps, where he received his forklift certification. Jodeci was an intelligent young man and could rebuild almost anything that he had taken apart or broken. His ability to adapt to any environment, good or bad, played a part in many of his life decisions. Jodeci found his passion for music, at a tender age, following in the footsteps of his dad.
Jodeci was huge on family and friends and believed in family time. He always wanted to be around family where he could laugh, tell jokes, play, and just be silly. He didn't mind working in the yard. If he saw something in the yard that needed to be done, he would take the initiative and find a solution to fix it.
Jodeci was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, Benjamin and Mary Betty Walker, and Arthur and Mary Lewis all of Petersburg, VA; maternal great grandfather, George E. Jones of Dinwiddie, VA; his aunts, Shanita Taylor of Hopewell, VA, Yodonus Hill and Arnita Lewis; devoted uncle, Alphonza L. Lewis of Petersburg, VA; paternal great aunt, Annette Walker; maternal great aunt, Linda Banks Jones (Terry); devoted cousin, Omar Williams of Petersburg VA; and his bonus grandparents, Joseph and Annie Mae Evans Moore of Newton, MS.
As Jodeci moves to his heavenly home, he leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Keion Jordan (mom Laterrica Jordan); mother, DeCarla Evans (Darrell) of Hopewell, VA; father, Julius Walker (Charlene) of Richmond, VA; siblings, JaSavion (Niya) Taylor (Akira) of Hawaii and Darrielle Evans of Hopewell, VA; maternal grandparents, Charles Jones (Oleathia) of North Carolina and Mechell Taylor of Hopewell, VA; paternal grandparents, Alfonza Lewis, and Diane Noggins both of Petersburg, VA; aunts, Antoinita Stokes of Texas, Lashawnda Coleman (Michael) and Tiffany Taylor both of Virginia and Shyronda Jones of Georgia; uncles, Ronald Taylor, Wesley Noggins and Javarus Epps all of Virginia, Gary Evans (DeShun) of Georgia and Lester Holley of North Carolina; great aunts, Tracy Walker, Tammy Walker, Tara Owens, Marion Jones and Rosalind Stith (William) all of Petersburg, VA, Lisa Lewis, and Gloria Abdul- Hamid both of Richmond, VA, Rhonda Lambert (Wesley), of Dinwiddie, VA, Wendy Taylor and Dominique Taylor (Kane) both of Hopewell, VA, Retha Jefferson Bradshaw (Steve) and Monica Marshall (A'Darryl) both of Virginia; great uncles, Benjamin Walker, Jr. (Annie), Terry Jones, Larry Jones, Bruce Jones, George Jones (Annette) Vernon Jefferson (Shirl), Vincent Jefferson, Tyrus Taylor, Dextor Taylor (Lamika) Theophlus Taylor, Jr. and Michael Taylor all of Virginia; great-great grandmothers, Alice Taylor and Mary Bennett both of Virginia; great-great grandfather, Theophlus Taylor of Virginia; devoted cousins, Orrin Walker, Kayjuan Walker, and Antonio Smith; bonus aunts, Zenobia Washington (devoted), Sonya Holloway (Irving), Lateasha Satterwhite (Chris), Sierra Walker, and Shamyra Fulford; bonus uncles, devoted Cornell Prince III (Tonya) and Jacorby Walker; bonus grandparents, Jesse Holloway, Pauline Jones, Gloria Jones and Twanda Spratley; and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
Jodeci will be remembered for his music, big heart, his beautiful smile, his knowledge and connection to the spiritual world, his kind heart, and his enduring love for his family, especially his son KJ.
"Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee." - Psalm 73:25

Jodeci marched to his own tune. He was born with a beautiful notable smile, increditably talented and bold. My nephew was special in his own lane, and he was lovable. Jesus says this is not the end so I know we will meet again. Love me some JoJo

Even as A kid he had A beautiful, infectious smile that lit A room up.You could not help but grab those fat cheeks of his and give him A kiss on them. There are no words that I can say that would lighten your heart ache, but just know that I will continue to ask God, to give you the strength to get thru it day by day.Amen.
