Kent David Moffat

1956~2024

- Kent David Moffat, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the evening of Thursday, August 22, 2024. Born on September 1, 1956 to Norma Lou and Murray Scoffield Moffat. Kent was the 7th child out of 11 children born in the family. In mom's history, she referred to Kent as "a fun little babe" and he was indeed a mama's boy and favorite frick!

Kent learned the trade that dad taught him which had to do with dry wall, taping and plastering. He worked many years with dad and became partners. Dad was always about doing things the right way, and not cutting corners which Kent learned to be the same way. He was very perfected and proficient in this trade and always worked really hard at what he did. He loved his work, and he loved working with dad and brothers, which led to the company name of Murray Moffat and Sons. Dad always taught his children integrity and good work ethics which Kent learned greatly from, and it showed in his work.

When Kent was hurt from a tragic fall back in January of 1990, mom never left his side through his hospital stay in California, Louisiana, and several rehab facilities in Utah. When Kent left the rehab facilities, he came to live with mom and dad in their home. Mom and dad became Kent's nurse and caregiver while dad built Kent's paraplegic style home for him to move into.

After some time of mom and dad's care for Kent, his sister Kathy whom we call Chubbs took over his care for many many years! He would call her Sara Beth as she did everything for him including cooking, laundry, changing, showering, nursing, transporting him for all of his many doctor appointments, shopping, you name it she did it! We are very grateful for Chubbs and her lifetime of service to him, she's amazing and never quit! With the care of Mom, Dad and Chubbs for Kent, it was their desire to keep him out of a care facility for as long as possible. It wasn't until about the last 16 months of his life that a care center was necessary. We thank Life Care Center for their service and care for Kent during his time there.

Kent was a fighter and after spending almost half of his life as a Paraplegic, to include a severe head injury, he never quit fighting. He learned to make his life livable, happy and of essence to himself and others. He always had something to say, and would sometimes go on for an hour or two entertaining you with his laughter, word jargon and whatever else he could think of just to keep you there as long as he could. He loved people no matter if he knew them or not. He loved all the little children as well and enjoyed them as much as the older ones who came to visit.

Before Kent's accident he was known to be kind, caring, loving, giving, funny, helpful and serviceable, along with many other wonderful traits. He was always outgoing and because of his kind nature he would give the very shirt off his back for anyone that needed it. It didn't change for him after his accident, as he carried on with those same characteristics. He loved the Lord, his parents, his family, and he loved all his neighbors. He considered everyone his neighbor, even those he met at the store, or church, or the temple; it didn't matter they were his friends.

Kent had a fanny pack that he would wear in which he stored life savers, granola bars, cassette tapes or CD's that he copied music on, money, whatever he could get his hands on he would load his fanny pack up with them. Then he would go up to people he knew or total strangers, and ask them for a handshake and would put 1, 2, 3 or more items in their hands. They were always pleased, and it pleased Kent to see their smile and sometimes shock on their faces!

Kent loved to serve his neighbors. On garbage day he would wheel his wheelchair out and take their garbage containers to the curb for pick up. Then after they were emptied, he would wheel his wheel chair back to put them away. These were people that could take their own garbage out, but he wanted to serve them because he loved them.

He received the "Unsung Hero" award by Kaysville City because of his service to his neighbors, and he was chosen to be the Grand Marshall in the Kaysville - Fruit Heights 4th of July Parade.

Kent will be forever remembered by his family, neighbors, friends and any he came in contact with. Our hearts are sorrowed of his passing, but so happy for him that he is with his parents, his 3 sons, Chad David, David Kent and Weston Hugh, his sister Beverly and brother Mark, and other family members who have gone before him. We know he is in good company and we picture him running marathons and doing cartwheels now he has the use of his two legs and mind again!

We miss our dear Kent and will forever remember all the good and loving kind acts of service he gave to all of us. His smile and love welcomed us and many others into his life which meant so much.

Kent is survived by his eight siblings: Murray, Kathryn, Michael, Marilyn (Garth Malan), LuLu (Alan Ostler), Dawn (Jeff Rowberry), Jeff (Michelle Hout), Gwen, and many loving nieces and nephews as well as extended family members.

Funeral services for Kent will be held on Thursday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center located at 201 South 600 East, Kaysville, UT. A viewing will be on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary & Crematory located at 1941 N. Main Street, Farmington, UT. A morning viewing will be held on Thursday morning prior to the funeral services between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center.
