Mable Potter Obituary

Mable Mary Frances "Penny" Potter of Cambridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at HeartFields Assisted Living. She was 88.

Born on December 8, 1936, in Cambridge, she was the only child of the late Benjamin T. Potter and Frances Margaret Gillis. Mable grew up on her beloved Wayside Farm, where she was an active member of 4-H, earning numerous grand champion dairy awards. She was also an accomplished young student of ballet, tap, and piano.

A 1954 graduate of Cambridge High School, Mable followed her passion for the arts to New York City, where she pursued further training in dance and entertainment. Her talent led her to perform at venues across the country, including in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mable's creative spirit extended into modeling, and she found success working with top fashion houses, including Christian Dior.

In 1974, she married Ray Stevens, and the couple made their home in New York, while frequently returning to Maryland to visit her childhood home. Eventually, Mable and Ray made a permanent return to Cambridge, settling once again at Wayside Farm.

A graveside service will be held at Old Wye Parish in Wye Mills, Maryland, where her urn will rest alongside her grandparents, parents, and beloved husband.

Honorary pallbearers include her cousins Richard Knight Potter, Marvin Dunbar Potter, Thomas Mark Potter, and her neighbor Shannon Joseph Palmaras.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Talbot County Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
