James Berry Obituary

Church service for James "Jim" Robert Berry, age 88, of Farwell, Texas, is scheduled for 11:00 AM CST, Thursday, February 27, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Farwell with Dr. Stacy Conner of Muleshoe, Texas officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell. His grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Jim passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025 in Clovis, New Mexico, and has found his home in eternity with our Lord. He was born May 26, 1936 in Crosbyton, Texas to Cecil and Irene (Henderson) Berry. He married Patsy Phares in Lubbock, Texas on September 5, 1958.
Jim was a graduate of Texas Tech and was an avid fan. He was a "Red Raider" and proudly flew the colors with his attire and expected his "circle" to comply. He was a CPA for 61 years and practiced in Farwell until moving to Lubbock, Texas. Jim served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Farwell, where he was a member. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and served on the Farwell City Council, Farwell Hospital District, Farwell County Club as president and he received "Farwell Man of the Year". Jim served in his community, with friends, clients and family through his wisdom, love and encouragement. He was a man of integrity and provided strength for all those around him. Jim exemplified determination. His family can attest to his strong desire to win in any sport, but demonstrated and taught how to use those same skills to "never give up" at anything they did. Jim's 1:00 tee time with his buddies has moved to heavenly places. Jim will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through all those lives he touched. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; his parents; three sisters, Helen Bond, Frances Copeland and Betty Daniel; four brothers, Donnie Berry, Pat Berry, Glenn Berry and Marshall Berry; and one son- in-law, Royce Bethel.
Jim is survived by his three fortunate daughters, Jamye Bethel and Doyle Ford of Farwell, Texas; Jana Pitcock and her husband, Randy of Farwell, Texas and Janene Jesko and her husband, Terry of Lazbuddie, Texas. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Shelly Bethel, Jamie Bethel, Ryan Roberts, Mindi Thornton, and her husband, Toby, Kayle Jesko and his wife, Stephanie, Jarrod Jesko and Lacey Lennon and her husband, Dustin; and his eleven adored great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Daleaney, Broxyn, Aynzli, Carson, Junah, Bostyn, Graham, C.J., Liam and Dennis.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Here I Am Send Me Ministry, ministering to kids through sports, PO Box 396, Farwell, Texas, 79325 or Created with a Purpose of West Texas, PO Box 190, Bovina, Texas, 79009. Online condolences may be made at www.ellisfuneralhomes.com.

Jim was a well friend and great man. I enjoyed playing many rounds of golf with Jim. He helped me many years ago when I was warming up to play in a golf tournament in Farwell. I still remember him telling me, "Bobby, a right handed golfer has to have a strong left side ". I never forgot that little bit of advice.
