Harry Waters Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Harry Lee Waters Sr., 84, Hopkins, Minnesota, who left us peacefully June 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Harry was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Laws Chapel, Texas, the beloved son of Chester and Una Waters. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Harry's life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved.

Harry was proud to serve as a professor at East Central College in Union, Missouri, where he inspired countless students with his passion for education and lifelong learning. His dedication to his students and colleagues was matched only by his love for his family.

A man of deep faith, Harry was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Union, Missouri, where he found community and spiritual strength. In addition to his love for learning and teaching, Harry was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hiking and camping. Whether exploring the beauty of nature or simply enjoying a quiet evening by a campfire, he cherished time spent outdoors with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carmell Waters, his children, Harry Lee Waters, Jr. (Donna Waters) and Maria Wasvick (Christopher Wasvick), and his cherished grandchildren, Sophia Wasvick and Ella Wasvick; and his sister, Betty Waters, Tyler, Texas. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Harry's warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. He had a unique gift for making those around him feel valued and heard, and his legacy as both an educator and a family man will live on.

Harry was laid to rest in a private graveside service June 26, at Silent Vale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Food for Falcons program at East Central College, Union, Missouri, continuing his commitment to helping students succeed. https://www.eastcentral.edu/foundation/food-for falcons/#:~:text=This%20program%20allows%20students%20one,money%20donated%20stays%20inside%20ECC.

Harry's legacy of love, wisdom, and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

He was my Political Science Advisor and a professor for several of my classes at ECC from '88-'90. Very kind and I enjoyed his classes very much. I am an educator now myself and looking back I really appreciate the time he took with his students and with me in particular. My deepest condolences.

Me. Water´s inspired me to go into history. He was an amazing instructor, kind man, and mentor. I took all of his courses at ECC. I am a better teacher because of him.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mr Waters was my favorite teacher at ECC. I took every class he taught, and I was a student worker for him. I will always remember him and my time in his classes with fondness.
