Frances Hinson Obituary

PENN YAN - Frances (Fran) Hinson, of Penn Yan, N.Y. passed away on July 28, 2025 at her home. She was 104 years old.

Fran was born in Richmond, Virginia on December 11, 1920, to Ollie and Mamie Smith. She moved to Ithaca, N.Y. as a young girl. Fran and her first husband, Palmer Moore, moved to Penn Yan, New York, in 1948, where she lived for the rest of her life. They had two children, Palmer A. Moore (Stub) and Marlene Frances Moore. In 1957, Fran married Robert Hinson.

Fran was a supportive stay-at-home mother to Stub, Marlene, and her stepchildren Connie and Ronald. Fran was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Lakeside Country Club, and she volunteered at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. She enjoyed swimming and water-skiing on Keuka Lake. She was a marvelous cook and had many dear friends.

Fran is survived by her daughter Marlene Moore Ouellette; and step-children Ronald Hinson and Connie McNamara. She leaves behind grandchildren Paul Pulver, Matheau Moore, Clayton Moore, Marlene E. Moore, James Ouellette, Kelly Verbridge, Kara Hinson and William Yarbrough; and great-grandchildren Matthew Pulver, Michael Pulver, Eden Yarbrough, Cole Yarbrough, Molly Verbridge and River Klock. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Hinson, sister Laura Terwilliger, her son Palmer Moore and grandchildren Bryan Moore, Keith Yarborough, and great-grandson Joseph Moore.

A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery. Enter the cemetery at the Court Street entrance. Weldon Funeral Home of Penn Yan is assisting the family.
