Kenneth Maines Obituary

CLIFTON SPRINGS - Kenneth Ray Maines, age 84, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Calling Hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday June 27 at the Oaks Corners Fire Dept., 607 Cross Rd., Oaks Corners, N.Y.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Joslyn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Oaks Corners Fire Dept., c/o Lee DeRyder.

Kenneth was born January 4, 1941, in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Raymond and Verda Maines. He moved to New York as a child, growing up in Phelps. He attended Phelps High School where he met Shirley Skinner, his beloved wife for 60 plus years. Ken worked at Phelps Cement Products, then Kordite in Macedon before spending the next 40 years working for Agway as a grain manager. After retirement Ken worked at the Phelps Mercantile, then Clarks, where he serviced lawn mowers and other small engines.

As a 50+ years member of the Oaks Corners Fire Dept., Ken served as Fire Chief for 2 terms during those years as well as President of the department.

He enjoyed golfing with his friends but especially enjoyed it while playing with his sons at Oaks Corners Fire Dept. golf tournaments.

Ken is predeceased by his wife, Shirley Skinner Maines; his parents, Raymond Maines and Verda Coulter Maines; and his brother, Marlon "Poochie" Maines.

Ken is survived by his children, James (Katherine) Maines, Kenneth "Babe" (Kim) Maines, Gregory (Debra) Maines; grandchildren, James Maines, Shelby (Gregory) Bell, Ashley (Justin) McDonald; great grandchildren, Callie Bell, Elizabeth McDonald, Jayden Bell, Emma McDonald, Faith McDonald, Myles McDonald; siblings, Hilda Maines Rissew, Norma Maines Rissew, Stanley Maines, Dennis Maines; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
