Betty BITTNER Obituary

Betty Lou (Sayler) Bittner, 86, of Sabillasville, MD, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro, MD, surrounded by loving family.

Born on June 1, 1938, in Ladiesburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Catherine S. (Martin) and Paul E. Sayler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert "Bob" Bittner, Jr.; Son, Bryan K. Bittner, whom she missed the most; Brothers, Martin, Hall "Bud," and Richard Sayler; and Sisters, Doris Stitely (Harry), and Gladys Coats (Richard); she was the last remaining child in her immediate family.

Betty graduated from Walkersville High School, class of 1956.

Betty worked at various shops in Waynesboro, PA over the years. She then started at the Victor Cullen Center in the Dietary Department until 1990, then the Western Maryland Hospital Center until her retirement. Her greatest joy was being with her Grandchildren, and then shopping was a close second.

She had more than just three sons, having opened her home to all who needed a place to go. Her heart was her biggest asset, and she had a place for people with challenges who needed her help and assistance. She will be missed by her family and by many, many friends, including her swimming family at the YMCA.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff Bittner (Cammi) and Phil Bittner; Grandchildren, Danielle Amyot (Matt), Rebecca Sherman (Jeremy), Robert Bittner, Lucas Bittner and Samuel Bittner; Great Grandsons, Emmett and Wyatt Amyot and Wesson Sherman; Brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Coats; Sister in Laws, Lois Long, Linda Bittner and Cindy Bittner; and many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

A funeral service will be held Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11 AM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Pastor Carl Fulmor officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont, MD.

Family will receive friends Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Flowers are welcome. Donations can be made to St. John's Church at 16923 Sabillasville Road in Sabillasville, MD 21780.

Betty was such a a beautiful person inside and out. Her "spot" was next to mine at our Y water aerobics class. I will miss her beautiful smile and conversations. I wish her family peace and wonderful memories.
