Bonnie Horman Obituary

After a long goodbye, Bonnie Lee (Marshall) Horman passed away on June 20,2025 at the age of 83. She was born October 21, 1941, the daughter of Lloyd M. Marshall and Jane Ramey Marshall (McFarland) of Grantsville, Maryland.

Bonnie graduated from Beall High School in Frostburg, Maryland, in June 1959. She then attended the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland and on the Baltimore Campus received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing on June 8, 1963. Bonnie continued her education, obtaining a master's degree in Maternal Child Health in June 1965.

Bonnie met Russell (Terry) Horman during her first year at College Park. Russell was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Bonnie was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority on fraternity row. They got married on September 14, 1963, in Frostburg, Maryland and were blessed with nearly 62 years of marriage.

Bonnie worked as a public health nurse in the Cherry Hill district of Baltimore City, while Russell attended the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore. Bonnie had a variety of work experiences after her youngest child was in school. She worked part time as an office nurse for Dr. John Melnick in Gaithersburg, MD, taught nursing students attending Frederick Community College at Frederick Memorial Hospital and spent a number of years as a public health nurse first in Frederick County and then in Washington County, Maryland.

Bonnie enjoyed traveling the world with Russell, their children and friends. While they were stationed in Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan, they were able to visit numerous countries in the Far East, including Korea, Taiwan, India, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Nepal, Hong Kong and Bali. After their return to the states, they have visited Russia, Ireland, Mexico, China and six countries in Europe; as well as four African countries on a mission trip. Her last trip with the children and grandchildren was to a dude ranch in Montana, where they enjoyed a week of adventures and horseback riding. Some said, "Best Trip Ever!".

In recent years, Bonnie has enjoyed sitting on the back porch of their home on Smith Mountain Lake, near Roanoke, Virginia, reading, watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder, swimming, paddle boarding, boating and watching her family and friends enjoying their house and Smith Mountain Lake. Most of all Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren, who will always remember and hold dear to their hearts the many trips to the Catoctin Zoo.

Bonnie was an active member of the Frederick Seventh-Day Adventist Church holding various offices in the Church including parish nurse.

Besides her husband, Russell, Bonnie is survived by her three children: Brian Russell Horman (wife, Kim), Melissa Ramey Bolden (husband, Wayne) and Marshall Thomas Horman (wife, Kristin); six grandchildren: Kalen Alexander Bolden, Macy Marie Horman, Brianna Ashley Horman, Avery Leigh Horman, Aiden Thomas Horman and Quinn Alexandra Bolden; and a brother, John Ramey Marshall and a half sister, Jenny McFarland Corbin (husband, Leeds).

She was proceeded in death by her parents, a half-sister, Mary Haines (McFarland) Casey, and a half-brother, Jay Arthur McFarland.

Bonnie will be cremated with no memorial planned at this time, according to her wishes. A Celebration of Life may be held at a later date.

Bonnie was so appreciative and humbled by all the well wishes and prayers offered by her family and many friends subsequent to her stroke on August 28, 2022, and prior to her death. Bonnie was not concerned about her journey or her destination, she was truly at peace. She passed away in her sleep at home, ready to meet her Lord. We can take comfort in her strength, her faith and the many lives she touched. Amen.
